Not A Fallen Creation

Start at the beginning; all things start at the beginning. The myths of the beginning are the myths of mindset, of the basic understanding of why things are the way they are. Beginnings are implicit in being; if this had not begun, it would not be here now.

So look at the beginnings, at the stories about where we come from. Look at the personal beginnings, cultural ones, look at history, look at myth.

What are the stories about why and how?

In my myths, the beginning was set in place with love and in its proper order, whichever set of them one looks at: raw potentiality became one, became two things, became diversity, each in its order and place. Things were not made to fail; they spilled forth in orgasmic glory, not to a purpose, but rooted in joy. This is the beginning, this is the root.

There is no discontinuity.

I repeat: there is no discontinuity.

Nothing fundamental has changed since then. Things are still, basically, where they should be: the foundations for a good world, a whole and healthy world, these are all laid. There is no schism between us and the beginning, the beginning is here at all times.

We can choose that.

In one of my sets of myths, the gods, those forces of proper order, are fed on the choice to support the community, to love, to give, to do good work, these things feed the gods. We were not made without those impulses to do these things; the gods have said so. We have the capacity to do that, to feed the gods and ourselves, to restore things to the beginning. To clean up the grime and entropy that accumulates not because of anything other than people choosing otherwise. Sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for venial reasons, sometimes because their personal resources are limited and they have to choose between supporting one community and supporting others, but the more people who choose to go back to the beginning, the easier it gets.

Take a moment, please, and believe that this is not a fallen creation: believe that it is possible for actions to make a difference. Believe that it is possible to choose to go back to the beginning and do it right.

Try living that way, just a little.
